Daylami 2yo Grey Swallow wins by 10 l

Tuesday 29 July 2003

Debutant winner Grey Swallow looked like something special when taking a Galway maiden by ten lengths on his first outing yesterday.

Tracking the leaders into the straight, the Daylami colt showed an electrifying burst of speed when asked to quicken on the outside, putting a wide margin between himself and the runner up Rock Of Cashel in a matter of strides.

Grey Swallow’s trainer Dermot Weld commented after the race: “This is a racehorse and he could be very special… He has all kind of gears and his next race will be the National Stakes. Then we will see about the Dewhurst or the Grand Criterium.”

This impressive success was a further boost for first season sire Daylami, who had another impressive two year winner when Thajja took a Newmarket maiden by five lengths the previous day.
