SEA THE STARS opened his Stakes account in the Southern Hemisphere thanks to progressive stayer TALL SHIP, winner of the Listed Warrnambool Cup.
TALL SHIP overcame a wide draw to pass the post three and a quarter lengths ahead of his nearest rival in this Listed contest, recording his fourth consecutive victory in Australia. The four-year-old gelding has now won three provincial cup events and is likely to step up in grade during the Southern Hemisphere spring season.
TALL SHIP, a son of Gr 1 Cheveley Park Stakes victrix Magical Romance, was a dual winner in handicap company at Goodwood in England before being exported to Australia for new owners OTI Racing.
The success of TALL SHIP in the popular Warrnambool Cup came twelve months after the victory of Akzar (Selkirk), a former representative of H.H. the Aga Khan’s famous green and red silks, for the same connections. This half-brother to top class Alamshar has been placed in several Group contests in Australia.
Back in Europe, SEA THE STARS' daughter NIGHT OF LIGHT opened her Stakes account when battling strongly to win the Listed Prix Volterra in Chantilly after having led from the start. Owned and bred by the Niarchos family, NIGHT OF LIGHT has been consistent at Stakes level and had already placed three times at Group 3 level.
SEA THE STARS picked up more black-type with his progeny at Chester as Storm The Stars, out of a half-sister to Giant’s Causeway, took second place in the Gr 3 Chester Vase.
