gave The Aga Khan Studs much to look forward to for the 2004 season.
A winner last time out, Tarakala soon took command of the Glanbia Classic Trial, extending her lead in the straight to win by an easy three and a half lengths. By Dr Fong out of the Stakes placed Tarakana, Tarakala is a half sister to three winners. She was herself a winner and runner up in a Listed race at two, and now looks set to accredit herself at a higher level. Tarakala’s win came soon after that of another promising filly in Hazarista, who broke her duck in good style in the fillies’ maiden over a mile. This smart filly also looks to have a bright future ahead of her.
The weekend had started on a high note for The Aga Khan Studs with Azamour’s most encouraging third place in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday. Having his first run this season, the previously unbeaten colt missed the break before running on strongly to take third place in the season’s first Classic. A delighted John Oxx commented: “He missed the kick and that might have cost him second. The Irish 2,000 Guineas is an obvious race if the ground is good or faster.” By Night Shift, Azamour is out of the Stakes winning mare Asmara. He is a half brother to three winners including the Group placed Ahsanabad, who now pursues a successful career in Hong Kong.
