A new chapter was written in the legacy of ZARKAVA on Bastille Day in France as the unbeaten champion’s daughter ZARKAMIYA recorded her first Stakes success in the Listed Prix de Thiberville.
The regally bred daughter of ZARKAVA and Frankel stayed on strongly to win the mile and a half contest on the Grand Prix de Paris card. Despite receiving a bump in the straight, the filly regained her balance and, as in her debut victory at the same track, brought back fond memories of her dam as she lowered her head to produce a devastating turn of foot in the final stages.
Trainer Alain de Royer Dupré was also responsible for the immaculate racing career of Arc heroine ZARKAVA and he found similarities between the pair after the ZARKAMIYA’s success, “Maybe like her mother ZARKAVA, this filly likes to finish strongly. Like her mother, she lowers herself to go fast.”
ZARKAMIYA has now won two of her three outings, over a mile and a mile and a half, and she now has plenty of options to step up to Group company.
ZARKAMIYA hails from one of the very best Aga Khan Studs’ families, as she descends from matriarch Petite Etoile. She is the half-sister to Group 1 winner and young sire ZARAK, by Dubawi, who has recently concluded his first season at the Haras de Bonneval, where he covered a full book of quality broodmares.
