The Autumn Sun highlights Aga Khan Studs and Arrowfield partnership

A second Group 1 victory for the son of Redoute’s Choice.

THE AUTUMN SUN, a nephew of AZAMOUR, secured his second Group 1 title on Saturday with a spectacular performance in the Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill.

Already a Group1 winner as a juvenile when he lifted the JJ Atkins Plate at Doomben, the colt confirmed his talent in impressive style when powering from last to first in the final straight of the Gr.1 Golden Rose Stakes. Owned by Hermitage Thoroughbreds and trained by Chris Waller, the exciting individual is now likely to be aimed towards the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas.

THE AUTUMN SUN is a worthy flagbearer for the partnership between the Aga Khan Studs and Arrowfield Stud, by Redoute’s Choice who shuttled for two seasons at the Haras de Bonneval, and out of the unraced Galileo mare AZMIYNA who is a half-sister to the late Group 1 winner and sire AZAMOUR and to juvenile Group 1 winner and sire ARAZAN, from a maternal line also featuring ASTARABAD.

Bred jointly by the two operations, THE AUTUMN SUN was sold in 2017 for Aus$700,000 to Guy Mulcaster at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. His three-quarter sister, out of AZMIYNA and by Redoute’s Choice’s stallion son Snitzel, raised the top price of the opening day of this year’s edition of the sale when changing hands for Aus$1.3 million, also purchased by Guy Mulcaster to join Chris Waller.

THE AUTUMN SUN is the second Group 1 winner produced by the joint venture of the Aga Khan Studs and Arrowfield Stud, following the success of Whisky Baron in the Gr.1 Sun Met at Kenilworth, one of the most prestigious contests of the South African calendar. Whisky Baron is a son of Manhattan Rain and SINNDAR broodmare TAZKARA.
