The Aga Khan Studs stallions were in vogue during Arqana’s recent August Yearling Sale, contributing significantly to a record-breaking market.
Current leading French sire SIYOUNI nearly reached the five million Euro barrier with 20 yearlings sold for an average of €245,550, for a crop which was conceived at a covering fee of just €45,000. The sire of Classic winners Laurens, Ervedya and this year’s Prix du Jockey Club hero and Arc hope Sottsass was particularly successful with his fillies at Deauville.
Highlights included lot 49, a daughter of American Listed winner and Group placed Apple Charlotte whose daughter Lottie is a Group 2 runner-up. Presented by Charles Brière’s Fairway Consignment, the filly is set to joint LNJ Foxwoods after being purchased for €650,000 by Alex Solis and Jason Litt.
Lot 145, the first offspring of dual Listed winner Persona Grata consigned by the Haras des Capucines, raised a bid of €460,000 from Canary Bloodstock, while lot 8 provided early fireworks in the opening session when selling for €450,000 to Godolphin. This filly from top vendor the Ecurie des Monceaux is the first foal of Stakes placed Siamsaiocht, a full sister to Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall.
SEA THE STARS also enjoyed considerable success in the ring and notably as sire of the top-price of the Monday session. His daughter, lot 193 consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, from a maternal line featuring Invincible Spirit was knocked down to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for €320,000.
The first yearlings by young sires HARZAND and DARIYAN created plenty of interest during the sale. Gilltown Stud’s dual Derby hero HARZAND was notably represented by lot 338 from the Haras du Cadran, a half-brother to Listed winner Esteve and grandson of dual Group scorer Trumbaka. This colt was snapped up by Italian agent Marco Bozzi for €125,000 who said: “This colt by HARZAND is one of the most beautiful yearlings in the sale and he had a clean vet record, he will be trained in Italy”. DARIYAN also broke the six-figure marker with a colt consigned by Charles Brière, lot 265, whose dam is a half-sister to Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Gr.1 Prix Jacques le Marois second Shaman. From the family of Intello, this colt fell to a bid of €115,000 from another Italian investor, Federico Barberini.
