Monday 8 November 2021

The roster is headed by three of Europe’s leading sires.

The Aga Khan Studs are pleased to announce the fees for their roster of Irish- and French-based stallions for 2022, which is headed by three of Europe’s leading sires. Gilltown Stud resident SEA THE STARS enjoyed another stellar season in 2021, adding two new Group 1 winning three-year-olds to his total tally of 16 in the unbeaten miler Baaeed and the progressive filly Teona. He is the second-leading sire in Europe by prize money, and had a total of 22 Stakes winners in Europe this year. This success also translated to the sales ring, where Sea The Stars was the sire of both the top-priced filly and the top-priced colt at Tattersalls Book 1. He will stand for a fee of €150,000 in 2022.

Haras de Bonneval counterpart SIYOUNI meanwhile was responsible for the top-priced colt at the Arqana August Sale, as buyers looked to find the next St Mark’s Basilica, Champion Two-Year-Old and unbeaten in four Group 1 races at three. Siyouni sired 36 Stakes horses worldwide in 2021, including five two-year-old Stakes winners, and his yearlings sold for up to €1.5 million. He finishes the season as the leading sire in France for the seventh consecutive year, and will remain at a fee of €140,000 for 2022.

ZARAK made an impressive start with his first two-year-olds in 2021 and his winners are headed by Group winner Lizaid, Listed winner Parnac, Times Square, second in the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac, and Purplepay, three-time winner and third in the Gr.1 Criterium International. The blue-blooded son of Dubawi and Zarkava is the leading first season sire in France by prize money and the leading first season sire in Europe by percentage winners to runners, and will stand next season at Haras de Bonneval at the fee of €25,000.

Completing a trio of sires at Haras de Bonneval is DARIYAN, a Group 1 winning son of Shamardal. His first crop of three-year-olds continued to provide winners and Stakes horses, while a flurry of two-year-old winners in October included the Listed winning colt Mister Saint Paul. In total, over three quarters of all his runners have either won or been placed.

Dariyan will stand in France at a fee of €5,000 in 2022. HARZAND, a dual Classic winner who stands alongside his sire Sea The Stars at Gilltown Stud, continues to be a consistent source of winners, and at 52% is a top-three sire in Europe by percentage of winners to runners. An impressive 90% of all his runners have won or been placed. Harzand will stand in Ireland at a fee of €5,000.
