ZARAK’s excellent start to 2023 continues apace, with his son Haya Zark the dominant winner of Europe’s first Group race of the year, the Gr.3 Prix Exbury at Saint-Cloud, on Saturday.
Already a Listed winner in 2022, as well as a good second to subsequent Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Erevann in a Class 2 contest this time last year, Haya Zark cruised easily into the lead, defeating dual Group 1 winner Skaletti by three lengths. The race marked a return to the track for Haya Zark after a break of eight months.
“He prefers soft ground and all summer the ground was fast and he started to grow,” said his owner/breeder Mme Odette Fau after the race.
“He has grown three centimetres since last year, so it was the right decision to give him a break and the horse has rewarded us today. I imagine the [Gr.2] Prix d’Harcourt could be next and then the [Gr.1] Ganay, providing he gets his favoured ground. In the fall, we dream of the Arc where his aunt Haya Landa had run so well. Why not him?”
