A brilliant winner of the Gr.1 Northerly Stakes last time out in December, SIYOUNI filly Amelia’s Jewel made a successful 2023 reappearance on Saturday when landing the Gr.3 Roma Cup is easy style.
Bred and raced by Amelia Park Racing’s Peter Walsh, the South Australian superstar is now the winner of seven of her eight races, from 1000m to 1800m, all at Stakes level. She is favourite for The Quokka, $4 million 14-slot race over 1200m on 15th April.
“I was positive on her straight away to see where she ended up. She was really positive in the trial out of the gates,” said her jockey Patrick Carbery. “She was quite excited to be back at the races today, she was marching around the mounting yard and her prelim (to the barriers) was really strong.
“Compared to first-up last preparation she’s going panels better. She’s in better health, more mature and stronger.”
Trainer Simon Miller added: “I’ve always said that if you trained her for a certain race, she’d execute for you, and we’ve had just the easiest time of it this time in. She’s been working well behind the scenes. Her trial was unreal, she’s just in the zone.”
Amelia’s Jewel is out of the winning Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina, who was sent back to France for another date with SIYOUNI on Southern Hemisphere time last year.
