KAHYASI had been suffering from a tumour in his off hind pastern and had been unable to stand for a week before connections were forced to take the decision to put him out of his misery last Thursday. KAHYASI retained his characteristic courage and good temperament until the end, and he had remained active during this final breeding season during which he covered 32 mares. The Haras de Bonneval sire will be sorely missed by the Aga Khan Studs and the French breeding industry in general. He had been based in Normandy since 2001.
The dual Derby winning son of Ile de Bourbon had established himself as a leading reproductor, sire of numerous Group 1 winners on the flat including Vereva, Zainta, Enzeli, Choc Ice and Khalkevi. The eclectic sire's produce were equally successful over jumps as demonstrated by Top of the Sky, Kasbah Bliss and triple Nakayama Grand Jump hero Karasi. However KAHYASI may be remembered principally for his talents as a broodmare sire. This season ZARKAVA, whose dam Zarkasha is a daughter of KAHYASI, flies the flag for the stallion and HASILI, the matron of all broodmares and dam of Banks Hill, Dansili, Interncontinental, Heat Haze, is another of his illustrious daughters.
