Dalakhani yearlings in high demand at Deauville

Friday 20 August 2010

Five of the Gilltown sire’s progeny change hands for prices well above sale average.

The excellent racecourse success of DALAKHANI’s progeny is echoed in the sales ring where five of his youngsters recently changed hands at ARQANA’s select yearling sale. Of these five, all but one reached or exceeded the six-figure mark. They recorded an average of 170,000€, well above the sale average of 94,264€ and over three times more than his nomination fee. DALAKHANI lies in sixth place in the sires’ standings for the Deauville sale, among average figures for sires represented by at least two products in the ring.

The top-price of the “DALAKHANIs” was reached by a grandson of German champion Elle Danzig. The hammer fell at a bid of 370,000€ from bloodstock agent Frédéric Sauque for this lot 37. The Park Lodge Stud graduate was purchased on behalf of a syndicate which has interests in flat, jumps and trotting racing and he will be trained by Alain de Royer Dupré, who trained the colt’s sire during his illustrious career. The handler is already responsible for the highest-priced of DALAKHANI’s 2009 ARQANA yearlings, the as-yet unraced Gawesky (out of the mare Alchemy) who was bought last year for 390,000€ by Olivia Sauque, daughter of Frédéric.

Offered by the Haras d’Etreham, lot 103 raised 170,000€ from Pegasus Farms’ Hervé Barjot. Tom Goff from Blandford Bloodstock acquired lot 138, a half-brother to a pair of black-type individuals, out of a Gr 3 May Hill Stakes runner-up, for 120,000€, and the Equus Agency was successful at 100,000€ for Amazement (lot 128), a filly from the close family of Medaaly and Charnwood Forest. Finally, Japanese investor Koji Maeda had the last word on lot 179 which was sold by Yeomanstown Stud for 90,000€.

SINNDAR multiplied his 2008 stud fee by more than 2.5 with his sole representative at Deauville. Vent du Nord (lot 402) is a son of Listed winner Luna Sacra, presented by the Haras du Mézeray, and he was bought by Gill Richardson for 55,000€. The only AZAMOUR yearling in the catalogue (lot 317), a granddaughter of EP Taylor Stakes winner Braiswick consigned by the Haras des Granges, sold for 30,000€.
