173 Aga Khan broodmares will be covered by 59 different stallions during the 2016 breeding season. This list features some of the top European and global sires, including the Aga Khan Studs’ stallions Born To Sea and SEA THE STARS in Ireland, SIYOUNI, CHARM SPIRIT, Makfi, Dalakhani and Sinndar in France, who between them are due to cover a total of 42 Aga Khan mares.
Champion mare ZARKAVA, dam of exciting prospect Zarak, has given birth last weekend to a colt by Invincible Spirit and she will now be presented to Haras de Bonneval resident SIYOUNI. This homebred, successful Classic sire will be used for several of the Aga Khan Studs’ top mares and these include dual Group 1 winner and Arc runner-up SHARETA, who is currently in foal to SEA THE STARS.
Elva foaled a full-sister to SIYOUNI’s triple Gr 1 winner Ervedya earlier in March and her 2016 mating will be on the same line as she will be sent to Pivotal, sire of SIYOUNI. Sichilla is set to produce a full sibling to SIYOUNI in 2017, as the dam of the popular stallion will also be covered by Pivotal.
Gr 1 Prix de l’Opéra winner Ridasiyna, and Dalayna, a close relative to Dalakhani, have been chosen to travel to Ashford Stud to meet Triple Crown hero American Pharoah.
Dubai Sheema Classic winner Dolniya will be bred for the first time to Dubawi, as will ZARKAVA’s half-sister Zarshana. From the same excellent family, Prix de l’Opéra winner Dalkala is nominated to Dansili, as is Tanoura, the dam of promising juvenile Gr 3 winner by Dubawi, Tanaza.
Dolniya’s dam Daltama will be sent to top-class miler Kingman, along with Group 3 winner Emiyna, whose first foal Embiran was a promising winner at The Curragh on Sunday.
A close relative to Gr 1 winners Estimate, Ebadiyla and Edabiya, 2015 Stakes winner Eshera is set to be covered by Dark Angel, as is Harasiya. This young Gr 1 placed mare gave birth to her first foal this year, a filly by Champion SEA THE STARS.
Proven broodmares Valima and Daryakana will visit the 2015 Arc winner Golden Horn. The former is the dam of Prix de Diane winner Valyra while the latter was a Gr 1 winner herself. Her first foal Dariyan is a Gr 2 winner and will line up in the Dubai Sheema Classic Gr 1 this Saturday.
Vazirabad will be another representative for the Aga Khan silks on Dubai World Cup night when he participates in the Dubai Gold Cup and he already won a Gr 1 in 2015. His dam Visorama gave birth to a Sinndar colt this year and she will be covered by triple Gr 1 winning miler CHARM SPIRIT.
