The leading sire in France SIYOUNI was responsible for the top price on the third day of the Arqana August Yearling Sale thanks to lot 293, a full brother to Gr.3 SOUVENIR DELONDRES consigned by Hubert Honoré for breeder Chris Wright. Anthony Stroud who bought him for €380,000 for Godolphin explained: “He is a nice horse by a very good stallion. He comes from a good farm and we valued him at that price. He compared very favourably to horses sold on Saturday and Sunday. ” The dam of the day’s topper, Dilag, has a colt at foot by another of Haras de Bonneval sires, Gr.1 winner Dariyan (Shamardal).
Four of the day’s top lots were sons and daughters of SIYOUNI and his appeal is spreading across the Atlantic with Justin Casse going to €240,000 to purchase lot 185, the leading filly of the day, to be trained in America. Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, she stems from the family of Peintre Celebre.
Lot 178, a filly out of a half-sister to Group 1 placed Orion Star consigned by Haras du Chevotel was sold for €200,000 to Jean-Claude Rouget and will race in the colours of Jean-Louis Tepper. The last yearling by SIYOUNI to go through the ring, lot 331 consigned by Fairway Consignment, was purchased by Phoenix Thoroughbred and Dermot Farrington for €180,000. These results will represent valuable return on investment for the breeders of the yearlings as they were conceived when SIYOUNI was standing for €30,000.
The Tsui family continued supporting Gilltown Stud’s sire SEA THE STARS by buying lot 188, a granddaughter of Porlezza consigned by Haras d’Ellon, for €200,000. Nicolas de Watrigant, who was acting on behalf of Mrs Tsui, said: "She is a super filly and I felt the price was very reasonable considering the quality of her page. She is very like her sire and very relaxed, which is always a good sign. " Like the Gr.1 Irish Oaks winner Sea Of Class, she will be trained by William Haggas in England.
