The blue hen mare delivered a bay colt on Saturday 18th May and both are doing well. The foal is by the Aga Khan homebred dual Gr.1 winner HARZAND, who is standing for his third season at Gilltown Stud alongside his sire SEA THE STARS. Pat Downes, manager of the Aga Khan Studs in Ireland, said: “He’s a lovely colt, we’re delighted to have a foal by HARZAND out of SICHILLA, who has been such an important mare for the Aga Khan Studs.”
A dual winner in three outings on the racetrack, SICHILLA won the LR Prix Amandine on her last outing at three before being retired to the paddocks. Her record as a broodmare has been nothing short of exceptional: four of her five products of racing age have been Stakes winners and her first foal was none other than SIYOUNI. The son of Pivotal won the Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère ten years ago and has since rocketed to the top of the stallions’ ranks. He was followed in the winners’ enclosure by SIYOUMA (Medicean), who herself won two Group 1s ; SIYENICA (AZAMOUR), the dam of promising prospect SIYARAFINA (Pivotal) ; and SAYANA (Galileo).
SICHILLA was amongst a selection of quality proven mares sent by the Aga Khan Studs to HARZAND, which also includes the dam of Champion Zarkava, Zarkasha, who has a yearling colt by the Classic winner. HARZAND will be represented by his first yearlings at the sales this year.
