Hukum became the 17th Group 1 winner for SEA THE STARS on Friday, powering clear in the Coronation Cup at Epsom to take the 12-furlong contest by more than four lengths, ahead of last year’s winner Pyledriver.
The five-year-old Shadwell homebred, who is the first Gr.1 winner for trainer Owen Burrows, is a full brother to three-time Gr.1 winner Baaeed, being out of star mare Aghareed.
Burrows said: “I’m speechless. It’s a wonderful, wonderful feeling to get that first Group 1. What a star of a horse he is. Hukum has a lot of speed and he travelled great. He picked up really well and Jim gave him a great ride."
Jockey Jim Crowley added: “That was great. I love this horse. He’s just so tough, so genuine. He does what it says on the tin, and turns up every time.”
Later on the card, Emily Upjohn, a close relation to HARZAND, very nearly became SEA THE STARS’ second Gr.1 winner of the day when narrowly defeated by Tuesday in the Oaks on the bob of a head, jumping late from the stalls and coming round the outside of the field.
