The month of January is not yet out, but already Aga Khan graduates have been making their mark on the international turf scene.
On Friday at Meydan, Keffaaf won the Gr.3 Al Khail Trophy for owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum. He was bred by Haras De Bourgeauville, who acquired dam Aliyfa from the Aga Khan Studs draft at Goffs November Sale in 2017.
In Australia, Chorlton Lane and Taramansour both ran a close second in their respective Stakes races.
Chorlton Lane was runner-up in the Listed John Dillon Stakes at Sandown on only his second try at Stakes level. His dam Asmeen was purchased by Tally-Ho Stud at Goffs in 2016, and has also produced for them The Strikin Viking, who was twice Group 2 placed in his juvenile season in 2024.
Taramansour finished second in the Listed Australia Day Cup at Warwick Farm on Monday. A half-brother to 2024 Group winner Tarawa, he sold at Goffs Autumn Online Sale in 2020 and has won six races since his export to Australia.
The Aga Khan Studs has a draft of seven horses set for this year’s Goffs February Sale. Five fillies include winner KAYHANA and SULAIYMA, a Kingman half-sister to 2024 Group winner Sumiha, and two males include KARAZHAL, a half-brother to recent winner in Qatar and Goffs HIT Sale graduate Karakoul.
In France meanwhile, the Aga Khan Studs will consign nine horses at the Arqana February Mixed Sale. They include SOMKIYR, a winning four-year-old ZARAK colt from the family of SIYOUNI; LIKASA, by SEA THE STARS out of Listed winner Likala; and fillies from the families of Dalakhani and Zarkava. Three-year-old SANAH represents a rare opportunity to acquire a daughter of exciting young Australian sire The Autumn Sun, and is out of a half-sister to Classic winner Sarafina.
