St Leger glory for Conduit

Tuesday 16 September 2008

Dalakhani continues his exceptional run of form with a second Classic victory for his first crop.

CONDUIT joins Irish Oaks heroine MOONSTONE as a Classic-winning progeny of DALAKHANI after his impressive success in Doncaster’s St Leger on Saturday. The Ballymacoll Stud owned and bred colt put in a superb staying performance to secure victory in Britain’s oldest Classic contest. CONDUIT eased into contention with half a mile left to run and was asked by his jockey Frankie Dettori to take the lead two furlongs out. Despite edging to the right in the final stages, the colt showed great tenacity and was never in any danger in the mile and three-quarter event, eventually registering a winning margin of three lengths over Unsung Heroine and Oaks winner Look Here in third.

The son of Arc de Triomphe winner DALAKHANI has now won four races including the Gr 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and taken second place in the Gr 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was offering his talented trainer Sir Michael Stoute with a long-awaited first win in this famous race after 25 previous attempts. CONDUIT will now be rested until next season when connections hope that he will prove to be a top-class middle-distance performer.

DALAKHANI, who stands at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud, counts six individual Stakes winners, including his pair of Classic performers, among his first crop of three-year-olds and boasts a strike rate of 60% winners to runners for this generation.
