The Haras de Bonneval’s Sinndar has made his mark in recent weeks as a talented broodmare sire, thanks notably to the success of Genius Beast in the Gr 3 Classic Trial at Sandown on 24th April. This colt is the first foal of the Aga Khan Studs bred champion SHAWANDA, herself a member of Sinndar’s first crop and winner of both the Gr 1 Irish Oaks and Prix Vermeille. Genius Beast is a son of Kingmambo and he was winning his second race in this ten furlong Derby prep. Trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni for Godolphin, the colt could now take in the Gr 2 Dante Stakes at York as he follows the Derby trail.
H.H. the Aga Khan’s Emiyna opened her account nicely at Dundalk earlier in the month and John Oxx’s charge is due to step up in class to run in the Gr 3 Athasi Stakes at the Curragh on 2nd May. The American-bred filly is by Maria’s Mon and out of Sinndar’s daughter EBAZA, a half-sister to Group 1 winners Ebadiyla, Edabiya and Enzeli.
Another Stakes performer with Sinndar as his maternal grandsire is French-trained colt Maiguri (Panis), bred and owned by Maxime Jarlan. He is out of the Aga Khan Studs-bred ZANADA, a Sinndar half-sister to Gr 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Zalaiyka. Maiguri proved to be a classy individual as a juvenile last season, picking up the Listed Prix Roland de Chambure at Longchamp before taking second place in the Gr 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère on Arc day and third in the Gr 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud. The colt is entered in the French 2,000 Guineas and Prix du Jockey Club in 2011.
Dual Derby and Arc de Triomphe hero Sinndar stands at the Haras de Bonneval in Normandy alongside Gr 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère winner Siyouni.
