Dalakhani took the honours at Dubai on Thursday 23rd February as his son BURANO opened his account in the Listed Meydan Classic. Ridden by Frankie Dettori, the three-year-old colt made steady progress throughout the straight in this mile event on the Meydan turf, and took the lead just before the line ahead of former Group 3 winner Entifaadha. BURANO had already impressed in Dubai when finishing late and fast to take fifth place in the trial for this contest over seven furlongs on 3rd February. This Listed success bodes well for the future for the colt, who should stay further in the future.
Trained by Brian Meehan, BURANO was bred by Sir Edmund Loder but is from pure Aga Khan Studs stock as in addition to his sire Dalakhani, his dam KALIMANTA was raised by the same operation. Sold to Richard Frisby for €150,000 at Goffs in November 2007, KALIMANTA (Lake Coniston) is a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Turf and Champion Stakes hero Kalanisi and Gr 2 Scottish Derby winner Kalaman. KALIMANTA has also produced the Listed and Group placed Kalidaha and dual winner Kallithea.
