SINNDAR’s daughter SHARETA showed her class at the Ebor Festival on Thursday when securing a first Group 1 win in the Yorkshire Oaks. This was a thoroughly well-deserved success for the four-year-old, who famously took second place against the colts in last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as well as in the Gr 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud earlier this season.
Alain de Royer Dupré had carefully chosen this race in a search for good ground and a solid pace for the filly and his move paid off handsomely. After riding up with the pace in the early stages of the mile and a half contest, Christophe Lemaire bided his time aboard SHARETA in the straight, allowing Was to take command before battling back on the rails to see off The Fugue by a neck at the post. Epsom Oaks winner Was faded to take third.
H.H. the Aga Khan’s SHARETA could now be aimed towards a second tilt at the Gr 1 Prix de l’Arc de Tiomphe, and prior to that date she also holds entries in the Gr 1 Prix Vermeille and Gr 2 Prix Foy.
SHARETA is the fourth Group 1 winner by English and Irish Derby and Arc hero SINNDAR who has also sired Irish Oaks and Prix Vermeille victrix Shawanda, Prix Marcel Boussac scorer ROSANARA and the tough Youmzain, winner of a pair of top-level contests. Indeed SHARETA is closely related to Shawanda, the Listed-winning dam Shawara (Barathea) of the former being a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner.
SINNDAR stands at the Haras de Bonneval in Normandy, France.
