The well-bred DALWARI opened his Group account at the first time of asking in Tuesday’s Prix de Guiche at Chantilly, at the same time reserving his ticket for the Gr 1 Prix du Jockey Club.
The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt will therefore attempt to emulate his uncle DALAKHANI, winner of the French Derby in 2003 when the Classic was still contested over a mile and a half. Now a stallion at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud, DALAKHANI (Darshaan) is the half-brother of DALWARI’s dam Dalmiya (Kalanisi). This unraced mare also counts multiple Gr 1 scorer Daylami (Doyoun) and Gr 3 winner Dalghar (Anabaa) among her half-siblings, and her dam Daltawa (Miswaki) was a Listed scorer.
DALWARI was an eye-catching winner of his sole outing as a juvenile, picking up the Prix du Rond du Chêne newcomers’ contest at Chantilly by two and a half lengths. Third on his seasonal debut in the Prix du Pré Catelan at Longchamp, the son of More Than Ready showed good acceleration in a steadily-run Gr 3 Prix de Guiche to win by a length and a quarter from Mshawish (Medaglia d’Oro) and the slowly-away Triple Threat (Monsun) in third.
DALWARI will now be prepared for the Prix du Jockey Club on 2nd June, back at the same track where he has registered his two career successes.
