Champion racehorse Sea The Stars was represented by his first Group winner this weekend, My Titania.

A first group winner for Sea The Stars

Tuesday 1 October 2013

My Titania now a Classic prospect.

Sea The Stars celebrated another important marker in his stallion career on Sunday as My Titania offered her sire a first Group success.

Racing for the third time of her career, My Titania was sent off hot favourite for the Gr 3 C.L. Weld Park Stakes at the Curragh. After tracking the leaders for much of the seven-furlong contest, the Christopher Tsui colour-bearer showed a highly professional attitude when accelerating two furlongs out and then taking the advantage a furlong from the post. She then held on gamely to the line, giving just enough to maintain her lead and score by half a length in front of Azamour’s daughter Chicago Girl.

The style of her victory reminded her handler John Oxx of her sire, whom he trained to win six Group 1 contests. He told the Racing Post, « She’s a bit like her sire in that she pulls up a bit in front. She has great speed though, and travelled and quickened really well. She stays well, behaved perfectly and is a nice prospect. » John Oxx nominated the British 1000 Guineas and Oaks as long-term targets for the filly, who will not race again this season.

Out of Listed-winning Danehill mare Fairy of the Night who also raced in the Christopher Tsui colours, My Titania should have no difficulty in staying a mile and further. The filly has now won two of her three outings and is offered at 16/1 for next year’s Newmarket Classic.

Gilltown Stud stallion Sea The Stars now counts eight successes from his first crop of juveniles.
