Vadeni success celebrates centenary
His Highness the Aga Khan IV - 1936 to 2025
In 2022 the Aga Khan Studs celebrated 100 years of breeding and racing.
Vadeni
A century on from the Aga Khan III’s first winners on the racecourse and the purchase of legendary foundation mare Mumtaz Mahal, his grandson, H.H. the Aga Khan, enjoyed his eighth winner of the Prix du Jockey Club.
Vadeni, by first crop sire Churchill out of Monsun mare Vaderana - a descendant of the bloodstock of Jean-Luc Lagardère - won the Classic by an impressive five lengths, ahead of the previous season’s Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner El Bodegon and the Poule d’Essai des Poulains winner Modern Games. His page is one full of blacktype, being from the family of Gr.1 winners Vadawina, Vazira and Valixir.
On the same day as Vadeni’s Jockey Club win, the green and red colours were also carried to victory by Zarak filly Baiykara in the Gr.3 Prix de Royaumont and sprinter Rozgar (a son of Exceed And Excel) in the Listed Prix Marchand d’Or.
The year 2020 belonged to Tarnawa, who posted a hat trick of Group 1 races.
