As owner-breeders, foals born and raised at the Aga Khan Studs remain under our supervision as yearlings and as racehorses, with the aim of returning them to their birthplace for their careers at stud. Stallions and mares retired from breeding live the rest of their lives on our farms and continue to receive attentive care.

The Aga Khan Studs is also a proud supporter of racehorse retraining charities Treo Eile (Ireland) and Au-Delà des Pistes (France), and many of our homebreds have gone on to success in other spheres after racing.

Au-Delà des Pistes was created in 2016 after a joint initiative between Godolphin and the Aga Khan Studs. The Aga Khan Studs’ Racing Manager Nemone Routh is currently Treasurer for the charity, while the Aga Khan Studs’ very own retrained racehorse Vazirabad is one of its ambassadors.

In the spotlight: Vazirabad

A triple Group 1 winner on the track, Vazirabad epitomized consistency throughout his racing career, winning 15 races and finishing second six times from a total of 23 starts.

Following his retirement, Vazirabad was retained by the Aga Khan Studs and became an ambassador for Au-Delà des Pistes. He went on to win competitions of a different kind—this time in dressage—demonstrating the versatility and adaptability of the thoroughbred.
