Pale Ale

Family 3o

1936 b. f. Mannamead - Compromise (White Eagle)

Pale Ale was an inspired 770gns purchase by Prince Aly Khan in 1949. Aged 13 at the time, she went on to produce his Irish Oaks heroine Amante as a 19-year-old and established a dynasty that would provide the stud’s Epsom Derby and Irish Derby winner Shahrastani four decades later.

The line responsible for Shahrastani, that descending from Pale Ale via the Le Haar mare Shamim, remains very relevant today as the source of recent Group 1 winners such as Royal Patronage and Technician. It also remains prominent within the Aga Khan Studs, notably due to the presence of Group 3 winner Shareen and her Group 2-winning daughter Shamreen.

A different branch also descends from Kaloudiya, Shamim’s winning half-sister by Shantung; the Group 2-winning and Classic-placed Katiyra and Group 3 winner Kataniya are among those to have advertised its merits over the years.
