Highwayman the latest flagbearer for Aga Khan mare graduates
The 250th renewal of Britain’s oldest Classic, the St Leger, was won by Highwayman, who becomes the seventh Group 1 winner in just 18 months out of mares bred and sold by the Aga Khan Studs.

Highwayman’s dam Salyana was sold at the 2017 Arqana Breeding Stock Sale as a once-raced three-year-old from the family of Siyouni, and was purchased for €32,000 by Paul Nataf. Highwayman himself was bred in France by Thierry De La Heronnière and runs in the colours of John Ioannis Neocleous.
The recent Group/Grade 1 winners list also includes juveniles Balantina and Zavateri, US-based pair Dynamic Pricing and Portfolio Duration, Australia’s Royal Patronage and Punchestown Festival hero Saratoga.
Top-flight winners bred and sold by the Aga Khan Studs meanwhile include Maghull Novices' Chase victor Mirabad and American Grand National Hurdle winner Zanahiyr.
