Both SIYOUNI and SEA THE STARS posted new Stakes winners in Australia over the weekend.
In Perth, SIYOUNI two-year-old Amelia’s Jewel lived up to her pre-race hype by winning the Listed Supremacy Stakes in decisive fashion on her racecourse debut. The exciting filly is out of Irish Stakes winner Bumbasina (Canford Cliffs), and is owned and bred by Peter Walsh of Amelia Park Racing.
Prior to the race, trainer Simon Miller had said: “I’m looking forward to watching her shine. She’s a ripper. From the get-go she’s always had an engine and it was no surprise to see her school up that way in the trial. If I can put some black-type on her early, I don’t know what she would be worth.”
Amelia’s Jewel, who is the 58th Stakes winner for SIYOUNI, will be aimed at the Gr.2 Karrakatta Plate next month.
SEA THE STARS meanwhile enjoyed his 88th individual Stakes winner when the ZEYREK scored in the Listed Randwick City Stakes by an impressive two-and-a-half lengths. A grandson of the great ZARKAVA, ZEYREK was a winner and dual Listed-placed prior to his sale by the Aga Khan Studs at the end of 2020.
The weekend also marked a successful return to the track for SEA THE STARS’ Group-winning son Hukum, who is a full brother to 2021 unbeaten superstar Baaeed. His win in the Gr.2 Dubai City Of Gold at Meydan put him on course for a tilt at the Gr.1 Sheema Classic on Dubai World Cup night.
In New Zealand, a grandson of a mare bred by the Aga Khan Studs won the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby. Asterix is out of Mourasana, a half-sister to Mouramara, dam of Gr.1 Sydney Cup winner MOURAYAN and Gr.1 Melbourne Cup runner-up MOURILYAN.
