The three-year-old colt showed a strong turn of foot again to prevail against a competitive field in the Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown today. He was winning a second consecutive Group 1 following his five-length success in the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club last month.
Positioned at the rear of the field by Christophe Soumillon, he progressed on the outside in the straight and was asked to accelerate with a furlong to go. He quickened powerfully to win surely ahead of multiple Group 1 winners Mishriff and Native Trail. His jockey said after the race: “When I asked him quicken he came so well. […] In the last 50 yards he just kept going and he was remarkable, a superstar."
A son of Churchill out of the Monsun mare VADERANA, VADENI hails from the Lagardère family of Group 1 winners VADAWINA, VAZIRA, VALYRA, etc. He gives his owner and breeder His Highness the Aga Khan a first success in the Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes, a race won by his father Prince Aly Khan with Saint Crespin in 1959.
