Mqse De Sévigné notched up her first Group 1 success in the 2023 edition of the Prix Rothschild at Deauville, before going on to win the Gr.1 Prix Jean Romanet the following month.
This year the daughter of SIYOUNI – also winner of the Gr.1 Prix d’Ispahan in May – was even more impressive, scoring by a length to make it back-to-back victories in the Prix Rothschild and remain unbeaten in 2024.
“To win this race, which honours our family and my ancestors, is always great,” said owner/breeder Baron Edouard De Rothschild. “She showed earlier this season that she had improved more from four to five and it is not a surprise, as she hails from a late-maturing family.
“She fully dominated today, it was quite impressive. As we said before, we will go with the programme we have mapped out for her which is the Prix Jean Romanet here again as last year and then the Arc. [Half-brother] Meandre won races over 12 furlongs and the family really stays. I think she's settling now, so she's not going to waste energy in the beginning of the course and I think it would be wrong not to try.”
Her jockey Alexis Pouchin added: “She's firing on all cylinders. The mare is even better than last year. She's more chilled. I get an incredible buzz from riding her. She has a huge amount of class.”
Also in France over the weekend, Sea Theme picked up her second Stakes success by winning the Listed Prix Luth Enchantée at Clairefontaine. The SEA THE STARS filly, who won the Listed Galtres Stakes at York last year, was bred by C-Squared Investments and is owned by Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, having been a graduate of the Arqana August Yearling Sale.
