The three year old son of Selkirk was settled at the rear of the field before showing his usual turn of foot in the straight. He came from last place to take the lead inside the final furlong, and easily accounted for a competitive field made up mostly of older horses.
Christophe Soumillon commented after the race: “I intentionally set off slowly as I didn’t want to find myself shut in on the rail due to the number one draw. I also knew there was going to be pace, which is an advantage for my colt. Once balanced, he came with a great run, and went to catch his rivals by himself.”
A late maturing colt, Massigann ran for the first time in June finishing a promising second after running green early on. Evidently making up for lost time, he currently has three wins under his belt, and could run at Longchamp over Arc weekend, in either the Gr II Prix Dollar or in the Gr II Prix Daniel Wildenstein.
Massigann is a half brother to two winners and is out of Masslama, who won the Group III Prix des Reservoirs at two, and the Group III Prix Vanteaux at three before finishing fourth in the Prix de Diane.
