Annual Progeny Earnings Index (APEX) figures recently published for the year 2009 by the Jockey Club Information Systems rank DALAKHANI as the top sire in the world aged less than 20 years old. DALAKHANI boasts an A Runner Index of 4.00, which places him third in overall standings, behind veterans AP Indy (5.13) and Unusual Heat (4.18) and ahead of Sadler’s Wells (3.97) and Galileo (3.77).
The A runner index represents the frequency with which a stallion produces ‘top two percent’ earners, ie horses whose earnings are ranked in the top 2% of runners in seven major racing countries in the USA, Europe and Asia. An A runner index of 1.00 means that a sire has 2% ‘A runners’ to runners overall during the year, and this is the average result for over 1000 stallions worldwide. DALAKHANI’s figure of 4.00 means that the Gilltown stallion has 8% ‘A runners’ to runners.
DALAKHANI’s top performers of 2009 were CONDUIT, who brought his Gr 1 tally up to four with victory in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and a repeat win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, and Group scorers Armure, Baliyana, Chinese White, Democrate and Shemima.
