Surabad hails from the family of Classic winner Sendawar, with his maternal lineage tracing back to Teresina, one of the original foundation mares for the Aga Khan Studs.

This consistent son of sprinter Bated Breath ran twice as a two-year-old, placing third on debut before stepping up to break his maiden on his second start at Chantilly.

Returning to the track at three, Surabad finished third in the Class 2 contest at Saint-Cloud. Two weeks later and upped to 2400m, he won the Prix Caracalla at the same track by an impressive seven lengths. This success propelled him into Stakes company, and he obliged in willing fashion to take the Listed Prix de l’Avre at ParisLongchamp at the end of April.
